Rohan Patel
Frequently Asked Questions
What is your tutoring approach?
My teaching style is based around first gaining an overview and understanding of the topic, and then moving to exam questions to identify any misunderstandings or gaps in knowledge. As a medic, I try to incorporate real-life examples when teaching topics to make lessons more engaging and interesting. Active recall and spaced repetition form an essential element of my teaching. The use of examiner’s reports and mark schemes are also vital in this process. As a student, I would always endeavour to be 'one-step' ahead and I have been keen to pass this onto my students – be it noticing common patterns in exam questions, specific terminology that exam boards like or observing common pitfalls.
What is your tutoring experience?
Over 1500 hours tutored (since June 2021).
I have been involved in several tutoring programmes at Dulwich College, which included tutoring a student in Latin GCSE in my final year.
I would often run sessions within my class where we would go through material.
At UCL, I have completed a module and workshop which explores teaching methods.
Winner of the Unsung Hero Award at UCL as a testament to my exceptional organisation and dedication to my mentees, after being shortlisted from over 200 mentor nominations. This award celebrates Transition Mentors who quietly make a difference by being consistently dedicated, organised and committed to supporting their Mentees and the Transition Mentor Programme. My role included mentoring a group of 1st year medical students each week, running tutorials and undertaking formal training.

Why choose me over a teacher?
As someone who has gone through the schooling process relatively recently, I am very up to date with the current demands and requirements that are placed upon students. I am well-equipped to understand students' perspective and therefore motivate them through private tuition.
